3 Days Akagera National Park Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Akagera National Park
After your morning breakfast, embark on a guided Kigali city tour where you’ll visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kigali Car Free Zone, and the bustling Kimironko local market. Immerse yourself in Rwanda’s rich history and vibrant culture, discovering key landmarks and local crafts.
By 11:00 AM, depart Kigali for Akagera National Park safari, a journey that will take you approximately 4-5 hours. Midway, enjoy a stopover at Imigongo Art Center to stretch your legs, admire the Imigongo art – a traditional Rwandan art form – and enjoy lunch at a local café.
Arrive in Akagera National Park around 3:30 PM, proceed with registration at the park entrance, and head to Akagera Game Lodge for check-in and relaxation. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive through Akagera, heading towards Lake Ihema, the largest lake in the park and the second-largest in Rwanda. Enjoy an unforgettable sunset boat ride on Lake Ihema, spotting hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Return to Akagera Game Lodge for evening relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive, Boat Cruise, and Night Safari
After breakfast, leave the lodge at 7:30 AM for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park. Explore the park’s diverse savannah, wetlands, and woodlands, where you’ll encounter the Big Five, giraffes, zebras, impalas, and various bird species. With over 500 species of birds, Akagera is a birdwatcher’s paradise.
