Overview of 2 Days Ruhondo Lake & Golden Monkey Trekking Adventure
The 2 day Ruhondo Lake and Golden Monkeys Adventure will take you on an adventure through the Kalisimbi crater lake and descend down the mountain through tropical forest to see golden monkeys. Starting at 7am, you will begin your scenic drive towards Lake Bulera ending at where the tour begins. You will then hike up the volcanic rim and enjoy a scenic view of the lake and surrounding mountains before descending down into the crater.
Golden monkeys are known to have unique characters and are a rare species that are endangered at the moment and they are currently found in the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda. They are easily recognized due to the yellow patches that can be seen all over their bodies. The Golden monkeys are also known as ‘the Old world monkey’ and the only way to separate these primates from others is by their noses. There is a unique character about the golden monkeys and that is most of the monkeys have their nostrils pointing to the sides but if you look closely at the golden monkeys, their nostrils face upwards.

Tour Itinerary
Timing is for guidance and may slightly vary along the tour:
- Day one 07h00:Pick-up in Kigali city by Universal ventures Rwanda Tours guide and departure and drive for 3.5 hours estimate.
- Boat trip in Ruhondo lake
- Lunch in Ruhondo
- Afternoon and evening:Transfer in the afternoon and check-in the hotel
- By 18h30:Dinner and overnight stay..
- Day two 06h00:Early breakfast, leave Musanze by 06h15 to be at RDB Kinigi Tourist information centre for registration and 07h00 Golden monkeys trekking
- From the Golden monkeys, enjoy Iby’iwacu cultural centre (Now called Gorilla guardians village-1.5 hours)
- Lunch and head back to Kigali to arrive around 18h00
- End of tour, debriefing and drop-off.
