Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park. Travel time: ~2:30 hours
You will be picked up by our guide or company representative from your hotel accommodation in Kigali or from Kigali Airport if you arrive with a morning flight. Begin your day with a half-day city tour of Kigali, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local markets, and the Inema Art Center to explore the vibrant cultural scene of the city. After lunch at a local restaurant, head to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park.
Upon arrival in Musanze, take the afternoon to explore Rwanda’s vibrant cultural heritage with a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Engage with local communities and immerse yourself in traditional Rwandan dances, crafts, and customs. Day 2: Gorilla Trek – Kigali. Travel time: ~2:30 hours
After an early breakfast at 6:00 am, you will be transferred to the park’s headquarters at the Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi, where you’ll receive a briefing from the ranger about the rules and regulations for mountain gorilla tracking.
Start your gorilla trekking adventure through the lush, mist-covered slopes of Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Encounter these gentle giants up close in their natural habitat, guided by expert trackers who share insights into their behavior, conservation efforts, and the park’s rich biodiversity. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is one of the most sought-after wildlife experiences in the world, offering a rare chance to witness these majestic creatures in their pristine environment.
The trek can last anywhere from one to six hours, depending on the gorilla family’s movements. Although the trek is strenuous, it is immensely rewarding at the end. You will spend an hour with the gorillas, taking photographs and observing them in their natural surroundings. After your trek, enjoy a late lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Kigali.
Arrive back in Kigali for your drop-off at your hotel or the Kigali Airport.
