This 4 days Rwanda gorilla and golden monkey trekking safari takes you to Volcanoes National Park well known for Gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Drive through the unwinding hills in rural areas into the home of endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkey. Your safari begins from Kigali urban settings in to the village setting of Musanze, this park is a habitat to variety of primate species that you may encounter during your trekking. You will also be to encounter a number of bird species and other wildlife. This is a life time dream safari.

Overview

You’ll be collected from the airport.

Day 1: Arrival and hotel check-in

Kigali (City) Most arrival options from Europe / USA arrive in the evening (KLM/Brussels Airlines) however, you can also travel on a night option if you arrive by 08:00 on the morning of Day
Relax at the hotel with an option to buying dinner or snacks on arrival, then overnight.

Day 2: half Kigali city sightseeing and Transfer to kibuye

 – Morning coffee at a Question Coffee (or similar venue)
– Nyamirambo Women’s Center walking tour;
or
– Genocide Memorial visit
– Lunch at local  restaurant
– Transfer directly to Kibuye

Stay at leisure at the shore of Lake Kivu, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Kivu lake  Adventure

– Explore Rwanda’s ‘Bay of Islands’ by kayak
– Pass small protected, uninhabited islands which are a haven for birds, vervet monkeys and if you’re lucky, spot Congo clawless otters in the water
– Hike to the summit of Munini, popularly known as Napoleon Island (because it’s shaped like his famous hat!),
– See a raucous colony of thousands of fruit bats that usually roost here during the day.
– Go on a short hike to the summit for a spectacular 360° view of Lake Kivu, over to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the lush green hills of Rwanda.
– Enjoy a delicious lunch, served on the island under the trees.
– Transfer to Cyimbili by motorboat
– At Cyimbili, go on a fascinating tour of the artisanal coffee plantations

Motorboat transfer to Gisenyi, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Gisenyi  to Musanze

– Morning at leisure in either Gisenyi or early check in; or
– Leave by about 09:30 and visit Handspun hope in Musanze before lunch in town; or
– Leave by about 08:30 to continue directly
– Walk on a flat trail as far as you like around Lake Ruhondo, one of the most beautiful lakes in Rwanda
– Picnic lunch transfer by motorboat to an uninhabited island for a delicious lunch with tables and chairs in the middle of nowhere
– Canoe on the Mukungwa River surrounded by the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes
– See dozens of species of aquatic and other birds
– There is a nice surprise along the way too!

Relax at the hotel, then dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and Back to Kigali

Meeting first at the National Park Headquarters, everyone will be split into groups of up to 8 people – and maybe joined with other tourists – before being allocated a ranger. You will then drive a short distance to the start of the trail, from where you will trek in the forest for around 1-3 hours or so to meet the gorillas.
When you find them, the hour you spend with these incredible primates is a true life time experience that you will never forget. To see – and walk amongst – a family of mountain gorillas is a wildlife encounter unlike any other on Earth.
You’ll be so close to the individual gorillas. Boisterous adolescents will be misbehaving whilst playful children are constantly demanding the attention of their parents as aunts and uncles wander together in an extended family group under the watchful eye of the silverback. You may only be a visitor, but you will briefly be part of their family in a really remarkable way.
